Banned Books Week

It's Banned Books Week - this is a cute video about banned/challenged books that I shared with my teen patrons. Here is a list of the most controversial books of the last year or so - some have been contested for much longer.

Stay at Home Toolkit

Something given to us at work for the prevention/concerns of/regarding the swine and other flus. Priceless.

-Wash your hands for twenty seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice) before and after using the bathroom
-Avoid people with the flu
-One common reaction to the flu epidemic (and I use that term loosely, just as a quote from the pamphlet) : increased boredom
-Turn off the news on TV if it upsets your kids to hear about the flu
-Use trash bags to dispose of trash, including tissues for "respiratory secretions"
-If you own horses, make sure you have a manure fork
-There are times you may have to take an adult's temperature rectally
-If someone has convulsions, call 911
-Record the color of the sick person's urine

Just a Monday

I just discovered that my cats can't spell. I rear ended a lady this morning because she was in my way. I had to get to work and was in a hurry because I had to go to the bathroom. Really bad. Animal friend pictures!

The Game Crafter

This could be fun - and just looking at what other people have made is, uh, interesting. Robots vs. Dinosaurs looks cool; and you can buy pieces parts for games that have gone missing from your own, like those damn Monopoly houses and hotels, and those stupid card stand things that get all mushed up because I'm too uncoordinated to fit the cardboard parts into it. Oh, pretty pretty transparent winkies!
This picture has nothing to do with this site. This is Nobob, and Lindsey, one of the girls in the anime club here at work, crocheted him for me. I just noticed that there is a fine balance of pictures on either side; on the left is a picture of Tony Stewart with a machine gun, and on the right is a picture of my daughter at her first communion. Very nice. I'm not being sarcastic here.

Mad Men Avatar

I love this. I am so addicted to this show. I don't watch hardly any shows because I don't have the time, so they have to be really good, addictively good, for me to justify time spent parked in front of the television. I have to pay close attention because the writing is so good, I don't want to miss a thing. Not a word. You can make your own avatar at their site, and I think this came pretty close. I don't smoke anymore but I do miss it.

New addition. Cat people must have this. I am not joking - this is hysterical.

Flowers for Eileen

More of my parents' flowers for Eileen. As my dad says, it's getting close to the end now, so I wanted to catch the last of them for her. I also wanted to show off my mom - she is and always has been, just too pretty to be related to me. I look like my dad. Oh, and there's Lucy, too. Always can do with more cat pics with this crowd.

Silmarillion

I'm at Borders, crying as I leave because I stumbled on a book on CD set of The Silmarillion. I must have been a good girl today! Early Christmas present.

Connect the Dots

Daily calendar, connect the dots to reveal "erotic" pictures. I will just leave it at that.

Trailer Park Boys

I guess Otin misses me, so I'll be nice (yes, I took my Midol this morning, obviously) and post something to which he can relate. On today's A/V order list . . .

The first season of this lovely show, Trailer Park Boys. Watch and learn.

DragonCon Reports

I posted DragonCon reports last weekend/early this week to BSCreview.com, if anyone is interested. They are a popular culture website - I write book reviews and a regular manga column (Mangakissa) for them. My other blog has a link to the reports as well.

Totoro

My B and our giant Totoro, with another fan who bought her Totoro at the same time. We were screaming and jumping up and down. Only at DragonCon can you forge connections with total strangers over anime characters.

DragonCon Surprise

Look, we ran into Otin at DragonCon! He still didn't take me to the race, though. Boo!

DragonCon

This is where I will be, from tomorrow at noon until Monday night. I might check in, I might not, I will definitely post to Facebook and post pictures/notes when I get back. Like Tuesday. Monday night I will be sleeping in front of my computer trying to catch up on my reading for next Wednesday's class, which I sure won't be doing in Atlanta. Yes, the Cup race is in Atlanta on Sunday night, but I am not driving down there (from Ohio, NOT) so I have no transportation to the track, which is half an hour south of Atlanta, and my daddy told me I am not allowed to hitchike under any circumstances, nor I am allowed out by myself for a night race. I'm still working on a way to get there . . .
(for some reason, I am unable to create a successful link to the DragonCon site, which is www.dragoncon.com - Blogger keeps inserting www.blogger.com in front of www.dragoncon.com when I try to attach the link to the picture.)

Ugly Food Tattoos

Can't decide what tattoo to add to your full body collection? Check these out for some ideas. Or not. (My next tattoo is going to be a red and black 14 on my right ankle. Merry Christmas to myself!). This sample pic is obviously for Michel.

Bobby Labonte

Yes, Otin, I did see that Labonte got ditched and someone involved must be legally insane. I actually screamed out loud when I saw that, and thought I had misread it until it showed up on Facebook, too. What is wrong with people?
Now, I don't have anything againt Erik Darnell, who sure knows how to rock the truck series, but when we talk Bobby Labonte, we talk champion; we talk bringing the Interstate Batteries 18 to the top for Coach Gibbs in 2000; we talk about Tony Stewart's Cup series mentor. Yes, he will be returning for five more races in the 96, but to pull him at all is like cutting off an arm. Sponsorship issues seem to be the reason, and that makes sense to some extent, but even though Darnell brings his sponsors with him, that doesn't mean he will rack up success in the seven races. That's a lot for a new kid in the big show. Yates claims intention to keep Labonte for another team next year; we'll have to see what happens.
I have Bobby Labonte 18 house shoes (like flip flops); a Bobby Labonte 18 keychain; and this lovely fish. Aside from being talented, smart, dedicated, hardworking, successful, and a family man, Labonte is hot hot hot hot. I love the Ask.com commercials where the mom in the NASCAR family is always drooling over him. I am so jealous because the actress got to grab his butt. I'd pay to do that job.
